When we hear the word “Supernatural” many of us unwittingly associate it with something fantastical, unexplainable, perhaps even fictional things that happen in some far-off land. When talking about supernatural things, it’s easy to sound very confusing, and mystical. This is why many have avoided the topic all-together, producing an even greater ignorance
concerning it. The truth however, concerning any topic, is always simple. Confusion, deception, and ignorance make captives of all of us. Though the verse found in the 8th chapter of John has become some what cliche in modern culture and literature, it is no less powerful;
“The truth shall set you free.”
Jesus, the embodiment of the Word of God, defined himself as: The Way, The Truth, and The Life, in John 14:6. The Word of God is truth, and therefore your freedom. Freedom from sin. Freedom from sickness. Freedom from sorrow. Freedom from everything that would trip you up in life. The Bible, God’s Word, is a supernatural book. Every time you read it, you may not look different, feel different, or think different, but in the realm of the spirit, you’ve been changed and empowered ever so slightly. Smith Wigglesworth has a powerful quote on the topic, in fact, I have this quote hanging up on my wall in my office! It Reads,
“The Bible is the Word of God: supernatural in origin, eternal in duration, inexpressible in valor, infinite in scope, regenerative in power, infallible in authority, universal in interest, personal in application, inspired in totality. Read it through, write it down, pray it in, work it out, and then pass it on. Truly it is the Word of God. It brings into man the personality of God; it changes the man until he becomes the epistle of God. It transforms his mind, changes his character, takes him on from grace to grace, and gives him an inheritance in the Spirit. God comes in, dwells in, walks in, talks through, and sups with him.” ― Smith Wigglesworth
We live in a crazy fast paced life, and it so easy to put reading the Bible on the back burner. For some of us, we don’t completely neglect spending time with the Lord, we just try to “fit” God into our schedule. It’s easier to pop in a podcast coming home from work, listening to a sermon while getting ready, putting on some praise and worship music, than it is to set aside time, get alone, focus your undivided attention on what you’re doing, and read the Bible. As you read your Bible, the slight change will occur to your spirit in the supernatural realm as you feed upon the word of God day by day. You begin to gain more confidence, security, clarity of purpose, and strength for your destiny. Your life takes on new meaning! When you were born of this world, you ate food of this world, but when you were born again, you became a new creature in the spiritual world. If you are to survive, you must eat the food of that realm, you must partake of the Word of God! You see how this can start to feel like a fantasy/ fictitious novel? But don’t dismiss it! The supernatural is the unseen reality of every believer. Our faith is not tangible, yet it is the avenue by which we overcome, and please God. God is not seen, He operates in the supernatural realm. We are called to govern our world by the world unseen. It takes faith! We don’t see gravity or the wind, but we see their effects as the grass moves and things fall. There are unseen forces at work even in the natural that could seem mystical to the uneducated or ignorant person.
We are to be advocates of the supernatural realm, ambassadors for Christ, and we possess citizenship in God’s Kingdom. These are not just meaningless words, this is our reality! Just as people are able to notice grass move and things fall, they will be able to see a man or woman with a peace that passes understanding, a joy that overwhelms, an undaunted confidence, and a contagious love. They will wonder why and how you can maintain that disposition, to be such a vessel of hope, that they will ask seeking to obtain what you have, a disposition that has been cultivated through daily time spent in fellowship with God, and drawing upon food and rest from your home, Heaven. Don’t be lulled into a sense of complacency, don’t shy away from learning about supernatural things, I know there is a lot of weird things out there, but the more you read your Bible, the more you will be able to discern what’s real and what’s fake. I hope this has been an encouraging and inspiring narrative.
I feel like the Lord led me to end all my posts with this simple reminder: God bless you all, I hope you know I pray over my readers. If you don’t have anyone in your life praying for you, then know that if nothing else you have me in your corner. I’m praying for all my readers, and that means I’m praying for you. We are all in this thing called life together, and no one needs to go at it alone. So feel free to reach out to me if you have a personal prayer request, also if you know someone who would like to be a part of our community, then let them know about the blog so we can all connect with our God and walk through life together as brothers and sisters! Love you all. -Jake
