Too often we tend to conform to the opinions of those around us and use comparison to build our self-worth. This is a sure recipe for disaster, for it leads to a very fickle, unhappy life. Comparison is a double-edged sword—too often leading to destruction. The stress of trying to fit in, wanting to stand out, the pressure to be perfect, etc., are all self-induced afflictions that rob us of our daily joy, peace, and contentment. That’s why the Bible warns us, “But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding” (2 Corinthians 10:12 ESV).
But what if you could base your identity and self-worth on something besides the opinions of those around you or even your own opinions? What if your value was based on something that never changes? Something that is fixed and decided for all eternity— never to be undone? 
God never changes in His thoughts towards you. He does not look at you as a lump sum of your decisions, nor does He judge you based on your worthiness. The moment you surrender to God by believing in Him and confessing Him as your Lord and Savior, is the moment God places a new identity on you and in you! He sees you as His child, He delights in your happiness, and it is His firm desire to encourage and affirm your true identity—if you will let Him.
The Word of God is a living book full of life, love, and light. When you read God’s Words and speak them with faith, their power will take root in your heart and infiltrate and permeate your mind. The full realization of who you are according to God may not happen overnight, but as you meditate and speak His Words, the way you see yourself will begin to mesh with the way God sees you, and you’ll be able to see those around you the way God sees them. You will never be the same!
